On 5 June 2025, NETGEAR announced a definitive agreement to acquire the cybersecurity company Exium; the acquisition was completed on 16 June 2025. According to NETGEAR, the goal is to offer small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) an easy-to-manage solution that combines networking and security.
What Is Exium?
Exium is a cybersecurity company that develops a cloud-based SASE platform for SMBs and the managed service providers (MSPs) that serve them. SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) is a model that delivers network access and security functions (such as firewall, web filtering and zero trust network access) as a single cloud service. With zero trust network access (ZTNA), the identity of the user and device is verified for every connection. This means the same security rules can apply whether users connect from the office, from home or from mobile devices.
NETGEAR's Stated Goals
- ✅ Integrate the Exium SASE solution into the NETGEAR Insight cloud management platform
- ✅ Combine wired and wireless networking, firewall and security services in one solution managed from a single dashboard
- ✅ Make the solution easy for small IT teams and MSPs to deploy and manage
Remote Work and Security
Remote and hybrid work have increased the number of users connecting from outside the company network. The SASE model aims to apply the same access and security rules to these connections too. Which NETGEAR products the integration will reach, and when, should be followed through the manufacturer's announcements.
